Boil Water Advisory in Effect for Portion of BCWS Customers

UPDATE – 3PM, Wednesday, March 18, 2026 – Santee Cooper is actively testing water samples from the damaged Lake Moultrie Regional Water System main line to ensure no harmful bacteria are present. The state requires a testing series that takes 48 hours, which means results would be available Friday morning. If those results show the water is safe for consumption, affected water agencies would then be able to lift their boil water advisories. Read the latest information from Santee Cooper HERE.

(Wednesday, March 18, 2026) Berkeley County Water and Sanitation customers affected by the water main break are still under a boil water advisory. An advisory does not confirm contamination but indicates a potential risk. Since the water quality is uncertain, customers should assume that it may be unsafe and take appropriate precautions. Please continue boiling any water used for drinking, cooking, brushing your teeth, or any other activities that may cause you to ingest water.

Not every BCWS customer is impacted. These customers have been contacted directly.

The waterline that conveys water to our system has been repaired and samples were collected and sent to a lab for analysis. The testing takes 24-hours to complete. Once the test results confirm the water is safe, the boil water advisory will be lifted. When the advisory has been lifted, the affected customers will receive another call.
