Berkeley County Water and Sanitation is a self sustaining division of Berkeley County Government. Berkeley County Water and Sanitation does not receive tax revenue from the citizens of Berkeley County. Our operations are funded by rates and fees earned from delivering water and sewer services to individuals and businesses throughout the county. We also fund our operations with interest bearing accounts and revenue bond proceeds.
The Berkeley County Landfill, which is a part of Berkeley County Water and Sanitation, is also a self sustaining entity. The Landfill funds its operations with solid waste user fees and tipping fees received from the property owners of Berkeley County and the commercial customers that use the landfill to dispose of waste.
Berkeley County Water and Sanitation operates on a fiscal budget year that runs from July 1st through June 30th. The Berkeley County Council must approve each year’s new budget before the beginning of the new fiscal year. Each year’s budget is subject to three readings by County Council and the public is encouraged to attend the Council meetings.
